Is hearing to impeach Bush merely 'anger management'?
They lined up by the hundreds to be a witness to history at the Judiciary Committee's unofficial impeachment hearings of George W. Bush today.
It wasn't called that of course. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-S.F.) had balked at a real impeachment hearing. Something about fearing a voter backlash from the public, already in a bad mood about Congress' inaction on core issues.
But today's hearing by the House Judiciary Committee -- billed as an inquiry to the Bush administration's use of executive power -- was ripe with opportunity for those who want to evict the president from office.
Rep. Robert Wexler (D-Fla.) accused the administration of diminishing legislative power "beyond recognition" and cited "a litany of wrongful actions," accusing the White House of "a dangerous consolidation of power."
Rep. Maurice "Mo" Hinchey (D-N.Y.) said of the White House, "I think this is the most impeachable administration in the history of our country."
But Republicans (except for one, Rep. Walter Jones of North Carolina, an outspoken Bush foe) defended the White House.
Rep. Lamar Smith of Texas, the ranking Republican on the committee, belittled Democrats' attempts to turn the proceedings into an impeachment forum. If last month's hearing with former White House spokesman Scott McClellan amounted to a "Book of the Month Club," he said, today's is "an anger management class. Nothing is going to come out of this hearing on impeachment."
And Rep. Steve King of Iowa argued that after 45 hearings -- with such witnesses as Vice President Dick Cheney's chief of staff David Addington, McClellan and former
Ambassador Joe Wilson -- there was no evidence that the Bush administration had committed any high crimes and misdeameanors. King also claimed that a recently declassified CIA document proves the president's controversial 16-words in his 2003 State of the Union address about Saddam Hussein seeking uranium from Niger are corroborated by Wilson's report.
Chairman John Conyers (D-Mich.) reminded them both that "to the regret of many, this is not an impeachment hearing."
The hearing did however afford an opportunity for Rep. Dennis Kucinich (D-Ohio) to air one of his 35 articles of impeachment about Bush -- the one about manipulating intelligence to hoodwink the public and Congress about Iraq's stockpile of weapons of mass destruction.
And the hearing also gave an opportunity for former Rep. Bob Barr of Georgia, now the Libertarian Party's presidential standard bearer, to note that because of the Bush administration's politicalization of the Justice Department, four times as many Americans now have more trust in the Post Office.
-- Johanna Neuman
(An earlier version of this post misidentified Bob Barr as having represented Texas, not Georgia. Thanks to eagle-eyed reader "John Gaither" for alerting us.)

Bush and Cheney should been impeached ages ago:
corruption - no bid contracts for Halliburton, Cheney's secret "energy" meetings with his oil buddies
distortions and lies to start the war in Iraq so that Bush and Cheney's oil buddies could get at the oil and to feed Bush's ego
condoning and allowing torture - that alone should be cause for impeachment
firing judges for political reasons
outing a CIA agent for political reasons
this list could go on and on but no one will do anything about it.
Please, American voters, we really need a change and McCain's not it!
He's too cozy with the oil industry and the rich (for whom he wants to make Bush's tax cuts permanent -- heaven forbid the rich should pay their fair share!); he's for keeping our troops in Iraq for as long as possible but wasn't supportive of an improved GI bill for those same troops, a bill which Obama fully supported. His temper is notorious; his was associated with the Keating Savings & Loan scandal; his willingness to mess around on his first wife who stayed faithful to him while he was a POW and then dumping her for another woman (his current wife who is wealthy, too) after his first wife had an accident and ended up with a limp speaks volumes about his moral character.
The last thing we need is another bottom of the class at school, spoiled rich kid as president.

I personally thought it was interesting that Bush stated if the U.N. did not find weapons of mass destruction that he had three other plans of action, one included painting American planes as U.N. planes and flying them over Iraq in the hopes that Hussein would have them shot down...an act of war. That whole idea of painting planes to deceive the eye. We need to think a little harder on that one especially when it comes to 9/11/01.

"The horses have escaped, and the barn has already burned down.
Why impeach him now? "
Pete — those were pigeons. The horses, and the dogs, of war like none before, are champing at the bit and straining at the leash.
If impeachment hearings, especially of Cheney, are in progress by late August ("from a marketing point of view, you don't release new products in August") that will give courageous military brass, of the stuff Adm. Fallon is made of, unlike that "^$@-kissing little chicken-$&*#" (Fallon's words) who replaced him, gives them the support of the people and the peoples' institutions to say "NO" to preemptive October-surprise war on a second (third?) innocent country, a first-strike nuclear war to boot, and the utter ruin of the world economy, and of the Grand Experiment called the USA.

Only those with a partisan mindset would try to smear justice against crimes as "anger management". Neo-conservative Republicans will never convince me that they are tough on crime for as long as Bush roams free. Certainly an impeachment would be later than hoped for, but it's better late than never.
Throw both Bush and Cheney out of office. Hold them accountable for their actions.

This president and vice president are both proven war criminals and cannot get away with it. That Nancy Pelosi put impeachment off the table should be a reason to suspend her from office immediately. It is a shame for our country that we have no decision power as citizens anymore for Congress has become a farce.
What to do? Immigrate or protest. The warcriminals Bush and Cheney have to be removed from office as well as the warmongers from his administration( Wolfowitz, Perle, Rumsfeld, etc...) that got us into Iraq and now long for more killing of innocent people in Iran.

The biggest reason Congress is moving slowly on this issue is because we're not MAKING them move faster on it. The only reason they've moved at all is because of the people. WE decide if and when Bush and Cheney will be held accountable for their crimes. We must not only sign petitions and protest, but CALL CONGRESS - again and again and again - OUR members of Congress and INSIST that they do what we ask! If we turn up the heat, they'll get scared. EVERY call counts. Do you wanna watch history or make it?
MAKE YOUR CALL!!!!

Mr. Bob Barr represented Georgia's 7th congressional district as a Republican from 1995 to 2003. Not Texas.

I cant believe were discusing this. This goes to show you how incompatant our government is. Shouldn't we be voting on the drilling ban or do you people in California enjoy paying $4.39 a gallon.
You can call Bush and Cheney all the hateful things you want, but at least they didn't father kids out of wedlock and then hide from reporters in the ladies room. John Edwards ring a bell?

The ONLY reason Pelosi let this go to judiciary is because Cindy Sheehan announced running against her. The problem with this country is we have a choice between who they tell us to vote for. The Republican and Democratic parties are just funnels for special interest money that answer to the contributor and not to the electorate.Look at who voted to allow wiretapping BEFORE a court order was issued -CLEARLY against the Bill of Rights they've sworn to uphold-and whatever ELSE VOTE THESE PEOPLE OUT. We need to force legislators to pass a law that ANY public official that purposely subverts the constitution can be IMMEDIATELY prosecuted. Not like Rove who will laugh and laugh until even if he IS convicted Bush will pardon. We have a MORAL imperative to do everything within our power to prosecute people like Bush/Cheney who seek to undermine our national ideals.Get rid of the Democratic and Republican parties, the Federal Reserve, prosecute Bush/Cheney for treason, rescind ALL presidential directives and "secret" laws passed by Bush, prosecute Nancy Pelosi for complicity in treason.

Bush needs to be held accountable for his crimes. I'm Registered Republican, It doesn't matter wether you're Democrat or Republican, It's all a lie anyways. They all sing the same tune. We're all American no matter what our choice of party. As American's it's our duty to hold our officials accountable for their actions. George Bush has brought us into a war that we didn't want based on lies and acts of false flag terror. He and his friends made a fortune off the lives of our sons and daughters. He prayed on our fears to gain control over our lives via the Patriot Act. He announced himself above the law. Will you all allow him to be above the law? It's not too late. It's never too late. Yes his term is almost over, but it's not over yet. Impeach him now before he decides to send us into Iran on his way out. If that happens this economy will crash and bring the whole world down with it. If nothing is done, every president after him will know that he/she can also be a dictator "above the law" and that the American public wll lay down, take it, and do nothing about it.
You say it's too late? Our forefathers gave their lives to see to it that tyrants like this were not in power. All you have to do is pick up a phone and call Congress.

I used to be a registered democrat, now I'M independent. I turned independent because now I don't have to lie. Democrats lie about everything. The war in Iraq, what war? Global warming. Nancy quote, "we're all better off destroying the economy than die from global warming". Come on, Congress approval rating is 9%. Congress lies way more than George Bush. What will cause more harm, the X war in Iraq, or Congress illegal & complete reckless spending. 9.6 trillion in debt. Congress is 100% responsible for the national debt. Congress just overroad Bush's veto of the farm bill. If congress does not get their spending under control,we will be in a depression. The value of the dollar will keep sinking faster. History will show this is a far worse crime than anything Bush has done. YOU WILL FEEL THE PAIN!

Oh come on ... "be happy" is a very deep mystical provocation that carries with it tremendous weight - to align it with what has been going on and this current presidency is ... is ... well, I dunno - but it's something! And we, as a nation, are going to have to figure out what that 'something' is ... because part of a strident and resilient democracy is the voice and activation of the will of the people. And, my god, so boldly overlooked in this near decade. The house and senate seem to forget that they are symbollic to this process and REFPRESENT the will of the people. And where this has happened, perhaps it is time for the people to TAKE BACK their voices. I hadn't realized we were all voiceless until I heard Scott McCullen mouthing that one of the reasons that the Iraq war happened was that 'liberal media did not live up to it's role and let it.' Well, he kinda has a point. But both the media and Scott McCullen seem to forget a very vast and particularly fundamental characteristic of a democracy and that is the role and power of it's citizens! In fact, it is completely missing from everything he says - which, frankly, if you are a PR person ... one can understand that. But Scott forgets that he is above all and American Citizen. And what does that mean? That when he takes the pledge .. the invocation of the allegiance to the United States of America ... something that is fundamental to this country and its patriots ... he vows to uphold the STANDARDS embodied in the allegiance ... which is to the contitution and consequently the amendments that give us the bill of rights ensuring "protection of the rights of all citizens, residents and visitors on United States territory." After this administration - the citizens are now burdened with a hefty debt and what appears to be a formidable evaluation process relative to these standards - where, this government actively spent time hoarding its own power while overtly and covertly strangling the power of its citizens. This democracy now has to ask the hard questions. And the only way it will go through, is for the people to start doing their 'jobs' as part of the key structure of this democracy and start pushing the process forward. McCullen, sadly, has yet to really grasp the point that as a citizen of the United States ... you are bound to the ALLEGIENCE of its values above all else FIRST. It is your job then to ensure that the presidenty functions congruent to this fact, and therefore your allegience and faithfulnes is NOT to the president. Somehow, a whole bunch of people put the president ahead of the contitution and have been devoted to a false god. Somehow in this country we are not able to hold that, even though we are members of parties, the need of the party never supercedes that defined by its constitution. And where there is a challenge to the merit of the values of the constitution there is a framework built in which to direct that challenge in which EVERYONE is involved ... hey, not just the federal government and its media. Some of the biggest marches in US history happened in the period leading up to the golf war ... shame on the media for giving it both lackluster coverage and deliberately not challenging the talking points of this administration. And thankfully, its citizens marched ... because those marches sent a clear signal to the rest of the world that we were not in support of our president's actions and those representatives who voted for the war and abdicated our voices. If more than half the country was against the war, how is it that there were so many votes to support the president? There was a stunned moment when activists were told that CNN was deliberately holding back information. In fact, its policy was to send out the correct news around the world, and have an edited VERSION for the US which was not the same. How can that happen? It is not the case that they did know what the facts were, because it appears that they did - and CRAFTED their news to support the press and talking points of the administration. If that is not a propaganda belt by consent - I don't know what is. It is even more sad, that many entities had in their hands - including our legislators because they were sent the information - information that debunked the president's case and it falseness. And march the people did, and I am so thankful for that now ... marches are very difficult with NO budget and tons of donated time - to do them is an operational nightmare, and yet many marches happened, with growing numbers ... to get half million people to washington dc is - for anyone who has organized - is a landmark. That it happened across the nation, in cities all over, large and small - coast to coast - was the message the world needed to hear. Closing in on nearly 2 million marched on one weekend, and the numbers didn't even hit the news except on CSPAN and alternative news. And thankfully speeches were broadcasted and the world saw that we were not complacent - that indeed were playing our role. We joined across the globe in solidarity for the rights of people - "NOT IN OUR NAME" - and told we were not patriots. Orwell's so called allegorical depiction of communism suddenly boiled out of the ink on literary pages ... but wasn't he talking about communism? In that book, suddenly the laws were changed, but poor pig couldn't tell ...didn't it say all animals were equal? Why are now some animals more equal than others? Worst still - more powerful? I still remember the CEO of Ben and Jerry's pulling out a spreadsheet that illustrated quite clearly - 'hey, if you do this ... these sets of things are going to happen." All of the things that are happening now. And guess what, cities around the US were also sending out resolutions begging us not to go to war -- and if we did, what the net results wer going to be to these cities because of diversion of funds. And many have happened. It is the antiwar movement that telegraphed this around the world. The world gave us a rain check ... and now we are in the uncomfortable period of paying the debt. Just delivering a president who will again represent this constitution is not and cannot be the only thing we do. We are in a deep ethical conundrum if no one is looking ...

WE THE PEOPLE demand the Impeachment of G.W.Bush and Slick Dick Cheney!
They have committed crimes against us, WE THE PEOPLE, and crimes against the People of Iraq, and are about to do the same to Iran.
Did you not find it strange NO ONE at that hearing could call Bush what he is..A cold blooded killer, nor could they say he is a bold faced liar?
Where was their freedom of speech? What happened to their rights given to them under the Constitution?
If our rights are taken away kiss FREEDOM OF THE PRESS goodbye as it walks out the door.

Cheney and Bush need to be brought to trial for their treason against the People and the Constitution of the United States. And for their crimes against humanity.
What must be done, must be done.

THE ONLY THING THE HOUSE DEMOCRATS CARE ABOUT IS GETTING RE-ELECTED.
ONLY A SERIOUS THREAT BY IMPEACHMENT ADVOCATES
TO UN-ELECT INCUMBENT HOUSE DEMOCRATS
WILL CAUSE FULL IMPEACHMENT HEARINGS.
ALL SHOULD BE AWARE that the House Democrats did not allow this preliminary Impeachment Hearing Friday
Out Of The Goodness Of Their Hearts
or Because of Any Particular Group's Lobbying.
THERE IS ONLY ONE DYNAMIC THAT RECENTLY CHANGED.
EVEN DEMOCRATIC VOTERS are now THREATENING TO UN-ELECT INCUMBENT HOUSE DEMOCRATS.
The Democrats are afraid of massive voter retribution in the November Election. They are afraid of losing their jobs, their power, and the perks that go with it.
The Voters have recently and loudly told the House Democrats that we are sick and tired of their stonewalling on holding Bush and Cheney accountable. After My Democrats took over, the polls show that Congress's positive rating dropped to the single digits, the lowest in history.
The refusal of the House Democrats to stop the Iraq War and Impeach is unforgiveable. We put you in office and if you do not hold Full Impeachment Hearings prior to the Election we will un-elect you.
In Colorado We Democrats, Independents, Republicans and others are currently doing negative campaigning against all incumbent House/Senate Candidates who have refused to support and even discuss impeachment. If the House Democrats do not immediately announce the date of the first full impeachment hearing scheduled prior to the election, we will greatly increase our negative campaigning.
THE RACE FOR the PROMOTION OF INCUMBENT Colorado Rep. UDALL TO THE US SENATE is a statistical DEAD HEAT.
UDALL REFUSES TO DISCUSS OR SUPPORT IMPEACHMENT. WE can affect the outcome of this race and PUSH UDALL TO BACK IMPEACHMENT. Or STOP HIM FROM WINNING ELECTION TO THE SENATE. We don't need another Bush Lite Dem in the Senate.
Democratic Congressmen have our support only if you hold serious full impeachment hearings before the election. Fail to do that and we will campaign against you, It is time for a change in The Behaviour Of Congress.
Californians who want accountability via impeachment should follow our example.

PS: Did the Media note that this 2 hour hearing ran over 6 hours
and that 2 overflow room were packed, and that hundreds were left outside in the halls, and that the testimony was mostly
For impeachment? This is getting serious.
YOU ALL NEED TO CALL CONGRESS EVERY DAY (800-828-0498) AND DEMAND THAT IMPEACHMENT HEARINGS START BEFORE THE ELECTION

Saddam Hussein was put to trial, and he had already done the damage, I don't see why Bush and his administration shouldn't be put to trial.
The lives destroyed must be accounted for. It's not old news, nor is it too late.

I am as sick and disgusted by the cowardly, weak-kneed pathetic..."Please, we just want to be re-elected" sob sisters in the Democratic party as I am of the constantly lying, bullying GOP..all this bunch in Congress do is "raise money" they do not legislate or protect any thing..they are nothing more than high-priced salesman for the corporations and the wealthy who run this country...they don't have enough time to vacation, raise money and legislate, (so they leave out the most important part of their job, protecting the Constitution, oversight and legislation)....they can't or won't protect us from the abuses of this administration, they can't or won't protect the Constitution, they can't or won't enforce the laws...if they can not protect us from domestic terrorism, right here in our own country, with our own laws (half the time they give the green light to those abuses) ,,what makes any one think they can or will protect us from foriegn terrorists who do not live by or recognise our laws...? Just why the hell would we even consider returning any of them to office..they are completely worthles...

Remember Watergate? It took so much congressional time and attention that the business of the country was on hold and we had the highest inflation rate ever. The same would happen with impeachment. True: Bush made some very bad decisions - the first was his choice of VP and essentially letting Cheney run the country. He may go down as the worst president in history but distracting the country, the congress and the world with impeachment solves nothing and wastes valuable time and resources. We only have five months until a different president takes office. We have managed 7 1/2 years - we can stand five months. The big questions is Where is our congress when we need them?

The Bush Administration are War Criminals plain and simple. To not impeach and put all of them in jail is unaceptable. Actually for what they have done they should be put to death.
There have been millions of Iraq citizens killed since Bush Senior invaded Iraq.
Anybody familiar with curent events should of known that Iraq had nothing to do with 9/11. Since it is very apparent that 9/11 was an inside job to not impeach the Bush Administration is criminal.
Posted by: Rolland Miller | July 26, 2008 at 03:48 PM
buy your guns now. Once the economy tanks Bush is going to try to instill marshal law and give himself complete totalitarian power. The cops, judges, politicans, and city officials who break the law in defending this criminal and cowardly administration will be first in line. The people have by power of the constitution the right to form a militia to defend or/remove the government if in these cases. It will be time soon.

IMPEACH HIM NOW
Posted by: joe | July 31, 2008 at 08:54 PM
Impeachment has become a tool of the parties' war against each other. If the president is impeachable, people from both parties should be trying to do it. Remember when all the republicans were trying to impeach Clinton and all the democrats were defending him? Party loyalty seems to be greater than American loyalty. Is the opposing party going to impeach all presidents going forward?

THE BEST THING BUSH & CHENEY COULD DO FOR THEMSELVES AND FOR THE WORLD WOULD BE TO IMMEDIATELY RESIGN FROM OFFICE AND VOLUNTARILY COMMIT INTO PSYCHIATRIC TREATMENT. IF THEY DO THIS THEY MAY LIKELY BE SAVED FROM ARREST, TRIAL AND EXECUTION UNDER INTERNATIONAL WAR CRIMES LAWS. FOR THEY WOULD LIKELY BE PLACED IN CONFINEMENT FOR THE REST OF THEIR NATURAL LIVES ON AN INSANITY PLEA. . . . Since the Congress refuses to impeach Bush and Cheney because of their own guilt as accessories before and after the fact to the crimes committed, We need to seek involuntary commitment of Bush and Cheney as they both pose a real and demonstrated continuing threat to the world! . . . Sample forms for petitions for involuntary commitment of Bush and Cheney are linked to this site so that We the People can take action to seek a removal from office of Bush and Cheney on grounds of mental incapacity. With sufficient financial support to sustain legal proceedings in a court of competent jurisdiction, a class action petition will be filed seeking involuntary commitment of Bush and Cheney. PETITION FOR ORDER OF INVOLUNTARY COMMITMENT AND
TREATMENT OF GEORGE WALKER BUSH
[Peter Nickles]
Office of the DC Attorney General
441 4th Street NW, Suite 1060 N
Washington, DC 20001
This is a petition for the involuntary commitment for psychoanalysis and treatment of George Walker Bush President of the United States hereinafter called GWB.
This petition is based upon the the obvious condition of mental depravity of GWB as follows:
A. By way of an analysis of Megalomania from a study by Dr. Justin Frank, M.D. Washington psychiatrist in a book published June 2004, Bush on the Couch.
B. By way of a similar analysis of Adolf Hitler made by a group psychiatric diagnosis of Megalomania under contract by the Office of Strategic Services [O.S.S] Published by Henry A. Murry, M.D. October, 1943.
C. By way of Insane Delusion concerning his projected perceived bogus “terrorist” enemies of the United States as projected against Iraq, Iran, Syria and North Korea. The real enemy being GWB to himself for which we all suffer.
As a result of this mental depravity, GWB:
1. ordered approximately Four Thousand [4,000] US military personnel to their deaths.
2. caused the injury, loss of limbs, eyesight, hearing and permanent maiming of
approximately Twenty Six Thousand [26,000] US military personnel.
3. caused the deaths of an estimated Six Hundred Fifty Thousand [650,000] Iraqis.
4. Caused the destruction of billions of dollars of infrastructure of the nation of Iraq.
5. immersed the United States in debt beyond it's capacity to pay.
6. indebted future generations presently estimated at One Hundred Thousand Dollars each.
7. ingratiated the image and character of the United States without regard to its citizens.
8. intends to involve the US in a never ending war against a bogus enemy.
9. tortured and held prisoners without trial or honoring human rights.
10. violated the Constitution, Treaties , National and International laws.
For these reasons the undersigned individual alleges that GWB is a mental threat to National and World peace, safety and security and petitions the District of Columbia Attorney General to file immediately for an order of commitment.

WE THE PEOPLE OF THE U.S.A.
Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff
Pentagon
Washington, DC 20001
RE: Resistance to further widening warfare
Sir:
As a member of a class of persons referred to in the Preamble of the Constitution , as We the People, the undersigned person(s) requests that you defer to the will of We the People, any further widening or escalation of military actions across the globe including but not limited to the nation of Iran as may be requested by your Commander in Chief, George Walker Bush.
Currently, effort is underway to seek involuntary confinement and treatment of the said George Walker Bush for mental disorders including but not limited to Megalomania . The same or similar mental disorders were attributed to Adolf Hitler under a diagnosis requested by the Office of Strategic Services in 1943.
German Generals had sought but were unable to deter Hitler based upon his mental disorder to the cost of 50 million casualties. Had they succeeded those “collateral” damages would have been far less.
Involuntary Commitment of Dick Cheney for insane delusions against the interests of we the people is also being sought.
In the interests of peace and justice I/we request that you order a stand down to any further orders of escalations emanating from the White House until such time as the issues of mental depredation of both Bush and Cheney have been settled.
From my/our perspective, it would be appropriate for you and all commissioned officers of the military to also request an order to determine the mental capacity of Bush to command. Can you also bring up charges for Courts Martial?
Sincerely,
