Michelle Obama thanks Laura Bush for 'proud' remarks
Michelle Obama, the 44-year-old wife of Democratic presidential nominee Barack Obama, had some nice words to say today about first lady Laura Bush.
Appearing as a guest host of ABC's "The View" today, Michelle Obama said she was "really touched" that the first lady defended her after she said that "for the first time" in her adult life she was proud of America.
On ABC's "Good Morning America" while in Europe, Mrs. Bush said that no doubt Mrs. Obama meant to say she was "more proud" of her country. Michelle Obama said today that she had written a "thank you" note to the first lady.
"I was touched by it and actually I sent her a note," Obama said. "It took me a while to write it. Like, how do I address her? I sent it to 'Madam First Lady.' I don't want to talk about it because she might not have it yet."
Mrs. Obama added: "That's what I like about Laura Bush, her calm, rational approach to these issues. I am taking some cues. There's a reason why people like her, because she doesn't sort of fuel the fire."

I am so embarrassed over how we must be looking to other Western nations.
Can we actually focus on issues please, and not spouses??

Laura Bush has real class!

Laura Bush has been a class act from day 1, unlike others associated with or running this administration. When John Kerry's wife made an unfortunate remark during the 2004 election, Mrs. Bush was also quick and graceful with her response. Mrs. Kerry also was grateful to her for that The country would be much better off now if Laura were in charge, instead of her bunker mentality, corporate stooge husband.

she said that "for the first time" in her adult life she was proud of America.
Why (mis)characterize what she said when it is easier to quote her? Huh? HUH? The fact is that most of the so-called "reporters" working in corporate media are ignorant incompetent propagandist hacks.

Contrast that with Cindy McCain, who only scares small children.

GOOD LORD! How many weeks old is that comment? Drop it already! She made an off the cuff comment late in the day after weeks of campaigning. You should consider yourselves lucky that the word doesn't hold you to such a standard. Now about those issues....

...as I was saying... Why is it those to the right of center feel the need to constantly reduce political conversation to Rush-isms and name calling? Again...energy, Iraq, environment, economy...please!

John McCain on Fox News:
“I didn’t really love America until I was deprived of her company.”
Why all the hub bub about Michelle?

Mrs. Obama meant what she said and that's very sad. Her life has been difficult because of her race and socio-economic level. Many of her supporters feel the same or can identify with her. I feel badly about all their difficulties and their bitterness. But I can easily see these exist. Let's look at the whole picture then decide whether bitterness would have a negative effect on our country. That's a very important, personal judgment. R Cook
