Happy birthday Mr. President ... that'll be $62, please

President Bush turns 62 on July 6 and the Republican National Committee, as it often does, is using the occasion to ask for money.

First Lady Laura Bush -- who remains about 20 points more popular than her husband -- asks in an e-mail for supporters to sign an e-card, and make a donation of $62 -- or whatever.  "Please consider commemorating President Bush's 62nd birthday with a gift our entire party can share," she writes.

Before the president turned 60 two years ago, a freelance writer named Sheryl Oring went all over the country with a portable typewriter, asking Americans to write a birthday card to the president. The responses in "I Wish to Say" were precious, including one from a mom and her two kids in Tampa that said, "We didn't vote for you and we kind of wish we had a different president. But since you are the president, we want you to be happy on your birthday because nobody wants a sad president."

If I send more, will it get him to Crawford faster?

Nane

I think I will send my $62.00 to the Humane Society.

To the worst President in the history of the United States:
Each day that passes brings us closer to your exile from politics. Thanks for nothing. I hope you have many more birthdays so you can see how you will be remembered as the worst President ever.

Alex

Thank you for the demolition of the twin towers.
Hope you burn in hell. Capital punishment for Bush 2008!

Angeleno

""We didn't vote for you and we kind of wish we had a different president."

To which Bush replied, "Who cares what YOU think?"

Duane - you're an IDIOT beyond reason. keep turning the other cheek - your head will be spinning faster than Linda Blair's in 'The Exorcist.'

PNW Trojan

For the Republican Party, which no longer represents me, I would like to donate my used toilet paper! It might be US greenbacks, but after bush/cheney, same thing, either way. Duane - I am ashamed - of the American People, for being so incredibly stupid, to have a bush in the White House. I DO 'Thank God!' it won't be the 'other' clinton!!!

gary

everything you ask for and do is too little to late. you are pure evil or stupidity or both. you and mccain mcnasty mclier mcnotahero both are the ilk of the right because of your cowardly lefty leanings and your a joke of the left because your a rino, you and arnold and mcnasty are all whores of your own wimpy ways and like jesus says, "you are neither hot nor cold therefore I spew you from my mouth". you cowards are neither hot nor cold. your just cowards and people have died and will continue dying because of you three stooges.

Chuck U

WHy are you "celebrating" this man's presidency. I guess this is now the LA Times of Jonah Goldberg. One of the few delusionals who still think Republicans are always right.

Bill

$62? Sorry, I think people are going to need that for gas.

Mike

His birthday is July 6.

THANK YOU, Mister President. We love you and pray for you every single day. A picture of you and Laura hangs just inside our front door and you are ever in our hearts.

Thank you for your diligent watch....not one more attack on US soil. I am sure that more will come-but not on your watch.

Nevermind all the petty people who disrespect the very office of the Presidency, their day will come.

You just keep doing a great job and leave the Senate and Congress to continue their chokehold on moving forward with real answers. People forget that it is THEIR FAULT....they voted in this senate and congress and THOSE ARE THE PEOPLE to blame, not you!!!

We love you, Mr. President and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
