Celebrities who threatened to move out of the U.S. when Bush got elected...

08:26 AM PT, Jun 27 2008

Remember all those celebrities who threatened to leave the country if George W. Bush won the election in 2000? Barbra Streisand and Alec Baldwin come to mind.

Well, guess what? They're still here.

And actor Stephen Baldwin, a former supporter of GOP candidate Mike Huckabee who's now backing Republican John McCain, told Fox News' Laura Ingraham Wednesday night that he will make the same pledge if Democrat Barack Obama is elected.

Stephen Baldwin also wondered why celebrity endorsements matter at all. "What is freaky to me is the media and Hollywood is so convinced that Middle America and mainstream America cares what it thinks."

But the Republican Baldwin deflected attempts to criticize his brother. "Laura, be nice," he said. "He can still kick my butt."

Um, Stephen Baldwin was joking abou moving out of the country. It was a joke, get it?

Barbra said she would move if Bush 1 got another term. Clinton won and thankfully, she stayed. She never said she'd leave if Jr. won. Although I'm sure she would have liked to-as many of us would have.

Ah, no. Baldwin was clearly joking-- unlike the deadly serious "threats" to leave by the Hollywood Left. Nice try though!

Whatever it takes to have him go. He the worst of the bunch.

You noted that Alec Baldwin said that in the past -- I can't find any references to it anywhere except for something on Snopes that said his ex wife was quoted in a German magazine saying that SHE thought he would and she'd join him. Someone told me that she saw him say it on a talk show way back when, but I can't find anything on that and she is an unreliable source -- I thought she was just saying that to win an argument. I know Stephen Baldwin has said it -- jokingly probably, as we all usually are when we state hyperbole like that. But I'm curious where you heard or read that about Alec.
