Nunez: I Don't Recall Whore Comment

BREAKING UPDATE: This morning, Assembly Speaker Fabian Nunez said he does not remember Rep. Joe Baca calling Rep. Loretta Sanchez a "whore" during a meeting with a group of lawmakers.

According to Politico, Sanchez said Nunez overheard the disparaging remark, which prompted her to resign from the Congressional Hispanic Caucus. Baca is chairman of the caucus, but a half-dozen Latino Democrats have defected from a related PAC because of his leadership.

At a press conference today, Nunez said: "On the question of Congresswoman Sanchez, I don't know what to tell you. I don't know who it was that said 'I have no recollection' in congressional hearings. I mean that in the most sincere way, I have no recollection of any conversation with anybody about a dispute between Congressman Baca and Congresswoman Sanchez."

Nunez also said he'd "rather not be dragged into the mud" of a Congressional fight. Too late! Read the earlier post here about other California Democrats supporting Sanchez.
