Iraq Protesters to Target Congresswoman Matsui's House

Pearcy_1After failing to persuade Rep. Doris Matsui to vote against funding for the Iraq war, some protesters who have been staging a sit-in at her office are moving to the front of her house in Sacramento. An e-mail alert went out today from Steve and Virginia Pearcy, longtime anti-war activists famous for hanging a solider in effigy outside their Sacramento home (in photo) with the words: "Bush Lied, I Died."

The couple, Matsui's neighbors, wrote today to supporters:

"Thus far, the effort has been futile: Matsui hasn't responded at all. Therefore, Virginia and I have decided to organize a direct action this Friday, from 3pm to 5pm, in the form of a peaceful and lawful protest IN FRONT OF CONGRESSWOMAN MATSUI'S SACRAMENTO HOME. If her constituents can't get her attention at her office, then maybe she'll pay attention when we visit her home!

"Although Matsui will probably be in D.C., that's fine. The important thing is that the symbolic effect of protesting in front of Congresswoman Matsui's home will generate public interest. It will create an opportunity for us to further publicize our expectation and insistence that she oppose any more funding or escalation of the occupation."

The e-mail included her home address and a Mapquest link.
