Teaching the Teachers, Part 2

Rebecca Schoenkopf, who does the Commie Girl column over at OC Weekly, writes in with some thoughts about a recent Political Muscle posting. It seems a state audit showed a paltry number of teachers had finished a training program in math and reading standards, even though the state had spent $113 million so far:

"Note on your note on the teacher training: My mom teaches 3rd grade at 61st Street School in South Central. Her students' test scores go up 60 percentage points after they've had her, but the district keeps pulling her out of class for days (weeks) at a time for these bull— training seminars, which are held in fancy ballrooms and catered quite nicely so the teachers can sit there and get tips from a bunch of retards. I have no example of the stupid things they tell the teachers, because my mom's so steamed at the end of these things, she actually blocks out what ever they've tried to teach her. It usually involves a lot of little games — and her yelling at them. Yeah, she's like that."
