Angelides Uses Bush Supporter's Song for Ad

As the campaign enters its final weeks, Phil Angelides has a new biographical ad featuring the uplifting song, "Let Your Love Flow," made popular by the Bellamy Brothers.

The TV ad takes California voters through the highlights of Angelides' life -- getting jazzed about politics while a student at Harvard, helping Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer win their U.S. Senate seats, and calmly flipping through papers on his desk at the state Treasurer's office.

Although the song makes the TV ad shine, Angelides picked a tuned that has been performed over and over again by a big supporter of President George W. Bush. The Bellamy Brothers appeared at multiple rallies for Bush in 2000 and 2004, and sang the National Anthem at the Liberty Ball during Bush's 2005 inaugural. The Republican Party of Florida honored the band for supporting Bush in that critical battleground state. They performed "Let Your Love Flow" multiple times for Bush.

For three weeks recently, Angelides railed against the Bush administration's war in Iraq and tried to link Schwarzenegger to the unpopular president. A senior Angelides aide, who thought the Bush/Bellamy Brothers connection was irrelevant, said they were aware of the link: "I have Google too, you know."

UPDATE: The Bellamy Brothers may have made the song -- written by Larry E. Williams -- popular, but the actual performers in the Angelides ad are ... "The Spokes Men." Now you know what I mean that's the reason.
