Rip Curl Pro Search Puerto Rico back on; ASP World Tour champion may be crowned Friday

November 5, 2010 |  9:42 am

South African Jordy Smith needs a strong finish today to keep Kelly Slater from clinching his 10th ASP World Tour championship.

The Rip Curl Pro Search Puerto Rico has been called back on Friday morning, with Round 3 commencing in clean 3- to 4-foot waves at the primary site in Porta Del Sol.

The ninth of 10 events on the 2010 ASP World Tour, the Rip Curl Pro Search holds the very real possibility of crowning this year's tour champion Friday, with Floridian Kelly Slater and Jordy Smith of South Africa the two remaining contenders.

If Smith fails to finish higher than an equal fifth at the event, Slater will clinch his historic 10th ASP title.

The Rip Curl Pro Search Puerto Rico is coming off two days of suspended competition following the tragic death of former three-time ASP World Tour champion Andy Irons, who died unexpectedly Tuesday.
