Lay day called for ASP World Tour Billabong Pro Tahiti; final day Friday

September 2, 2010 |  5:55 pm

Kelly Slater will take on rookie Adam Melling in Round 4 of the Billabong Pro Tahiti.

Small surf and heavy rains at Teahupoo have forced event organizers to call a lay day Thursday for the Billabong Pro Tahiti.

The fifth event of the 2010 ASP World Tour season has one day remaining in which to complete the final day of competition.

"The surf today is largely uncontestable and we’ve called competition off for the day," Richie Porta, ASP International Head Judge, said in a release. "We have one day remaining in the waiting period and we’ll look to complete competition tomorrow."

Event organizers will reconvene Friday at 6 a.m. local time to assess conditions for a possible 6:30 a.m. start.
