California free fishing day on Monday
Monday will be the second of two annual free fishing days in California, when the Department of Fish and Game will waive sportfishing license requirements for the day and allow citizens to fish all public waters in the state, both saltwater and freshwater.
All other angling regulations, such as catch limits, gear restrictions and stream closures, remain in effect. Report cards for certain species will also still be required.
The DFG will also be hosting a free, all-ages fishing clinic in Sacramento on Labor Day. The event will be held from 8:30 a.m. until noon at Howe Park, and reservations are not required.
The pond will be stocked with channel catfish, which successful anglers may release or take home. A limited number of rods, tackle and bait will be available on loan, also at no charge.

I wonder how many people took advantage of this event. It would have been the perfect time to introduce fishing to a friend or family memeber. I mean: free! You can't beat that. For anyone who is looking at more information on California angling then you can find it with the Cal Boating Safety Team: http://bit.ly/CalBoating. They have plenty of helpful links and tips on their site.

Sweet. I already have a license but I think I'm gonna gather up a few buddies that don't have a license at the moment and take them out on the water. Let's see if I can help get them hooked on fishing. Yet I also am looking forward to checking out that fishing clinic.
