90-year-old hunter bags trophy-sized buck

October 13, 2009 |  3:42 pm

Crossbow hunter Delores Wilhelms used a single arrow to take her biggest deer ever last week, a 9-point buck.

More impressive than the size of the deer, however, is that Delores is 90 years old and is back hunting after a 20-year break.

The Forest, Wis., resident has been hunting with her neighbor Ron Haessly on his property for the past two seasons since her husband passed away.

"I tell my wife I'm going to have the other woman over and go bow-hunting with me," Ron told a reporter from Fox affiliate WLUK-TV.

Since the bow requires about 50 pounds of pressure to load, Ron cocks the bow and then hands it off to Delores.

"I think she lives to deer hunt, I really do," Ron said

Some folks apparently question Delores and her interest in the sport.

"You go out hunting and fishing and they say, 'Where's the lady in you, why don't you go shopping?' Well, I don't like to go shopping, I get groceries and that's adequate," Delores said.

She seems to take any negative comments in stride.

"I love it, it's all the stuff that God gives you for free," added Delores. "A lot of people say I'm crazy. I say if they're talking about me, at least they're leaving someone else alone."
