Renner and Carmichael tie for gold in Step Up Final

Ronnie Renner competes in the Moto X Step Up final. Updated 9:05 p.m.:

Ronnie Renner and Ricky Carmichael were each given gold medals in the Moto X Step Up Final event.

They were each tied at 34 feet and were trying to clear 35 feet. Renner tried twice and missed, as did Carmichael. Renner was then given an extra chance and again missed, and so did Carmichael, who fell on his attempt and was immediately tended to by paramedics. Carmichael wasn't cleared to compete further, so the back-and-forth round was discontinued and both were declared winners.

Carmichael's injury didn't appear serious. He walked away under his own power and was seen talking to people.

"I was a little bummed at first that I didn't have a shot to straight up win it, but I don't want to win because someone got hurt in a crash," Renner said after.

"Not a worse guy to go co-gold medal with than Ricky Carmichael. If he's the greatest all time, can I at least be the goodest?"

The official height that they each had cleared of  feet was the same height that Carmichael won gold with in this event in last year's X Games.

Personally, I thought Renner was robbed. The commentators said the next step if neither competitor cleared 35' was to give them a 5 foot longer run to the jump. Renner was never given that opportunity. I have all the respect in the world for Ricky Carmichael, but just because he could no longer compete, doesn't mean Renner should not have been given a shot at it.
