James Stewart suffers shoulder injury and is out of X Games

*Updated with a Stewart quote

James Stewart, who was making his X Games debut and was billed as one of the marquee performers in Saturday's Moto X SuperMoto and Super X finals, has injured his shoulder and will not compete.

Stewart, who competed in a specialty Best-Whip event on Thursday, hit his shoulder against a concrete barrier and suffered a deep bruise to his bone and muscle in his left shoulder during seeding trials for SuperMoto.

He reportedly was flying home to Florida but is quoted on his website as saying, "I was coming around a corner and kind of washed the front end. The tire caught a little bit and I ended up slamming my shoulder against the wall pretty hard."

Stewart, an iconic star on the motocross and supercross circuits, was ranked No. 3 at the time of his accident.

That sucks JS7 could have won! Now he needs to get healthy for Australia Supercross and the 2010 Supercross season.

This makes you wonder if the likes of pro riders James Stewart, Kevin Windham and Josh Grant (currently 3rd in points for the MX Nationals) should be competing in an exhibition show.
