Storm blanketing California resorts with fresh powder

February 9, 2009 |  2:57 pm

I've requested storm photos from a few California resorts and so far only Northstar-at-Tahoe in Truckee has sent one.

Northstar has received 16 inches of fresh powder, most of it overnight, and the resort is reporting a depth of 51 inches at the summit. The photo was shot at the Martis Camp Express chairlift on Lookout Mountain, at 8,088 feet.

Undoubtedly, the rest of the Lake Tahoe area and Mammoth Mountain on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevada are looking similar.

Southern California resorts are taking a powder as well. Bear Mountain and Snow Summit reported 3 inches of new snow at 6 a.m., so that has probably doubled.

Snow conditions will be fantastic throughout the state for the rest of the week. Too bad some of us have to work.
