Jeremy Lusk in critical condition after crash during FMX event in Costa Rica

Jeremy Lusk in action last year during X Games Mexico event.

Freestyle motocross fans and anyone with a heart ought to send positive vibes Jeremy Lusk's way. He's in Costa Rica in a coma after enduring a horrific crash during a competition Saturday night in the Central American nation.

Cheryl Lynch, a publicist for the Metal Mulisha team of riders, is sharing what is known so far:

--Lusk, of Temecula, is in Calderon Hospital in San Jose, in stable but critical condition with swelling of the brain. His coma was medically induced.

--He did require surgery immediately after hospitalization "to treat a subdural hematoma on the brain." Surgery lasted more than four hours.

---X-rays to the neck and spinal column revealed no breaks. The hospital "is not reporting other injuries at this time."

--Doctors report that they will know more Jeremy's future prognosis within the next crucial 36 to 48 hours.

Lusk's wife, Lauren, and her father arrived in Costa Rica this morning. Metal Muslisha founder and FMX icon Brian Deegan also has traveled to Costa Rica.

Here's hoping for a happy ending to this unfortunate story!

I am so sorry to hear about Jerremy's death. I also am sorry that some people have the cold hearted opinion they have expressed on this site. I pray for his family and friends and hope he rests in peace. God be with his family.

Sorry to the family....I don't watch moto that often, but am a fan. I have heard of Jeremy and knew his name from watching. It takes a VERY BIG heart to pursue his job and by job I mean he put his life on the line for not only himself, but for his fans. He didn't deserve to die and certainly even from my small vantage point, won't be forgotten. I wish the best for his family:) very sincerely, Michael W. Mawyer from VA.

I just want to say that my prayers go out to his family and his friends as well as his fans I didnt know him but death affects everyone and I am sadden for your lost and for the ones who want to talk down about how he lived his life and what he chose to do with his life needs to keep their comments to themselves because he died doing what he loved unlike alot of us who are scared to take the risk for what we enjoy doing. Death comes in all kinds of shapes and forms and if this wasnt the way that God meant for him to go then it wouldnt have happen so I just say dont bad mouth him for how he died respect him because he chose to live his life the way he enjoyed it you only live once so why not enjoy every minute of it.

I can't believe some of the horrible comments that people are leaving on this page! A life was lost! Can you be empathetic at all?! I would rather a person die doing something they love, then waste their lives away doing drugs! At least he is in a better place and with his heavenly Father now! I pray for his family that has been left behind! And I pray that everyone will follow in Jeremy's footsteps...not only with his riding skills, but with his prayer life!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Sad but stupid. he died actually today!! He tried the same move and almost killed himself at the x-games!! Should have learned from that near death experience. Sad but stupid!!!!

ES UN MOMENTO MUY DURO PARA LOS QUE AMAMOS EL MUNDO DE LAS MOTOS PARA NOSOTROS LOS COSTARRICENSES ES ALGO MUY MUY MUY LAMENTABLE PERDER A UN GRAN DEPORTISTA Y LO SENTIMOS COMO UNO DE LOS NUESTROS JEREMY LUSK QUE DIOS TE TENGA EN LA GLORIA SIEMPRE SERAS UN GRAN CAMPION EN TODOS NUESTROS CORAZONES Y PARA LA FAMILIA DE LUSK MUCHA FORTALEZA Y RECUERDEN QUE COSTA RICA ESTA CON USTEDES HOY Y SIEMPRE ......AMEN ....AMEN.

It's always a terrible thing to lose your life unexpectedly. I never knew of this person, but everyone involved, has got to believe that he died loving what he was doing. Most of us NEVER live our lives in this way.

He died. Rest in peace.

I´m so sorry about Jeremy's death. This is not what we have in mind when we go to a show like that. It was a shockng scene. We love this kind of shows here in Costa Rica. That was the third show we had the opportunity to see related to Freestyle and we never knew that it could finish the way it did. As a fan of this kind of shows I really feel horrible about what happened. Peace to Jeremy's familly, all the costarrican people are with you in this moment.

RIP Jeremy

Our thoughts and prayers for the whole family! God Bless Jeremy, may he rest in peace. Love, The Payne Family
