Free tickets with rod and reel donation

January 27, 2009 | 12:58 pm

Eddie2_3 Don Ashley of Pierpoint Landing sportfishing in Long Beach wants to introduce the fun and excitement of ocean fishing to children. To help collect equipment to do so, the outfit is offering two free tickets to the Clippers-Charlotte Bobcats basketball game on Feb. 28 when anyone donates at least one usable saltwater fishing rod and conventional reel.

Most of the youths who will benefit from donations are part of the 976-Tuna Youth Fishing program. The program introduces children to the enjoyment of saltwater fishing and hopefully instills in them an appreciation of nature and the marine ecosystem of Southern California. Many participants have never had the opportunity to go out on a boat or drop a line into the ocean.

The offer is available until Feb. 28 or until tickets run out. Pierpoint Landing is located at 200 Aquarium Way. For questions or more information call the landing at (562) 983-9300.
