San Jose del Cabo anglers basking in sunshine, still catching dorado, wahoo
Congratulations to Brian Brictson for catching a 25-pound wahoo (pictured) just before ending the Christmas holiday break in San Jose del Cabo, 40 miles north of Cabo San Lucas on the Sea of Cortez.
Brian also caught a 30-pound dorado while fishing with his father, Eric Brictson, who owns Gordo Banks Pangas and supplies Outposts with a weekly fishing report.
It's the windy season, but there are calm days. Schools of mackerel have infiltrated the outer banks and with them have come some striped marlin and lots of dorado.
"January is normally the time when dorado become scarce, but with the water temperatures still averaging 72-74 degrees these tropical game fish have been providing some late season action for the start of the new year," Brictson reports.
January is also when wahoo become scarce, but Brictson and son experienced 10 wahoo strikes during their outing, landing three of the speedy and extremely toothy game fish.
San Jose del Cabo is a charming, laid-back destination, regardless of the fishing. Wish I could transport myself there now ...

Mexico is beautiful and the food is wonderful and the fishing is good... but it's still Mexico.
Corruption, crime, pollution, poverty and uncertainty. Not my idea of a good time.

Enough.
When did this become the Ensenada Times?
I am sick and tired of hearing about Mexico. I don't care about that backwards, corrupt, immoral, ruinous country.
California is the third largest, most populous, and most beautiful state in the United States. Surely there is something to write about California on this blog.
I don't care if you can fish for wahoo in Mexico or that people like to take weekend trips to Rosarito for the cost of a couple of false speeding tickets to the federalis.
You can't fish in California? You can't find something outdoors to do in the Sierras or the desert? Why is one out of every three threads on this blog about another country? It makes no sense.

San Jose is far away from Tijuana and the border of California/Mexico. Los Cabos is more Americanized and has a feel of the USA and Mexico combined.
The water is clean and warmer. Lacking the backwardness, corruption and immoral issues that Tijuana faces.
