Trout anglers in Southern California snubbed by DFG

Apparently, it is not the season for Department of Fish and Game trout planting operations.

The list of Southern California and Eastern Sierra waters to be stocked this week is the shortest I've seen:

INYO COUNTY -- Pleasant Valley Reservoir and Owens River Section 2.

That's one delivery into two Eastern Sierra waters that will be fished by a handful of local anglers, while thousands of Southern California anglers hoping to go fishing during the holiday week are snubbed.

Such a faltering end to the year hardly provides impetus to rush out to purchase a license for 2009, especially since money from those licenses fund trout rearing and planting operations.

Even worse: According to the DFG website there are no waters listed on the planting schedule for the week beginning Jan. 4. Here's hoping that changes and for many rainbows dancing at the ends of your lines.
