Pat Gudauskas joins brother Dane in Round 5 of Vans Triple Crown

December 2, 2008 |  3:55 pm

The Gudauskas twins from San Clemente are still in contention, while the younger brother has been eliminated from the O'Neill World Cup of Surfing at Sunset Beach on Oahu's North Shore.

Patrick Gudauskas, with a second-place finish in a four-man, fourth-round heat, will join twin brother Dane in the fifth round of a Vans Triple Crown of Surfing event that will resume Wednesday.

Patrick, whose tube ride late in the heat earned a score of 9.67 to boost his two-wave total to 14.17, is striving to qualify for the ASP World Tour, and if he can advance through one more heat he will likely realize that long-held dream.

Dane, at No. 66, is too far down the qualifying rankings ladder to crack the top 15 and advance to the elite circuit.

Other Southland surfers to be eliminated in the fourth round are Chris Ward (San Clemente), Timmy Reyes (Huntington Beach), Nathaniel Curran (Oxnard) and Sunny Garcia (San Clemente).

Making it into the fifth round was Damian Hobgood of Encinitas. Taylor Knox of Carlsbad is still awaiting his fourth-round heat.

The World Cup, which is the final qualifying contest of the season, will likely run through completion on Wednesday.
