Big, ugly beast reeled from Diamond Valley Lake depths
Outposts thought you might enjoy the above photo of Jason Walsh holding a 42-pound, 9-ounce catfish he landed during a recent trip to Diamond Valley Lake in Hemet.
The launching of private boats is currently banned at the sprawling reservoir, a spokeswoman said, because of low water levels. (Some believe a fear of a quagga mussel invasion is the real reason.)
But anglers from shore and aboard rental boats have been catching a variety of species, including trout, largemouth bass and very large striped bass.
Walsh's catfish, a lake record, was caught from a rental boat on an LA Slider swimbait near the intake tower.

Wow. Is a catfish that big worth eating?

Jon,
I would not eat that catfish unless I was starving. I would have let it go, if I could figure a way to get the hook out without touching it. That is a grotesque-looking fish!
