Mid-day update from Staples

The lights around Staples Center are slowly coming to life. We're in the middle of a two-hour break in action here, and Moto X step up practice begins at 3 p.m. (Pacific). So far today we've had BMX big air practice and the BMX big air selection session. And no crowd. So it has been very, very quiet.

Anyway, here's what we had in the selection session, as each rider had four runs to get his highest score:
1. Steve McCann - 87.00
2. Anthony Napolitan - 85.33
3. Mat Hoffman - 83.66
4. Zack Warden - 83.00
5. Mike Escamilla - 82.33
6. Alistair Whitton - 81.66
7. Michael Cleveland - 79.33
8. Gary Young - 77.33
9. Luke Parslow - 75.66
10. Mike Mancuso - 72.00

The WWL has just released the Moto X step up final start list, and it looks like this:

Position, Name, Hometown, State, Equipment
1. Tommy Clowers, Ramona, CA, Yamaha
2. Tonnie Renner, Westminster, CA, KTM
3. Brian Deegan, Temecula, CA, unlisted
4. Jeremy McGrath, Encinitas, CA, Honda
5. Matt Buyten, Minden, NV, Honda

The BMX big air final is set for 5-7 p.m., but based on yesterday, I'll venture to guess it doesn't begin until 5:30. The step up final will start shortly after the big air finishes. And after that, we'll have the skateboard street men's best trick final under the lights of the Home Depot Center at 9:45 p.m.

Should be a good one.
