When Zach Parise sat out of the New Jersey Devils’ game against the Philadelphia Flyers on Wednesday because of an undisclosed injury, eyebrows rose among the executives of Team USA.

Would Parise, who is among the highest-scoring American players in the NHL (26 goals and 58 points in 58 games) be lost for the Olympics? Given the sprained ankle suffered Monday by Ducks center Ryan Getzlaf, which has led Team Canada to put Jeff Carter of the Flyers on standby, it was a legitimate concern.

Not to worry, a Team USA official said. The injury is considered minor and he’s expected to play here next week.

Parise told reporters in New Jersey Thursday that he plans to play on Friday, so all should be well.
