Apolo Anton Ohno easily advanced through the preliminaries of the men’s 1,500-meter short-track speedskating competition, moving closer to getting a shot at tying Bonnie Blair as the most decorated U.S. Winter Olympian.

Ohno spent most of the race trailing the pack before turning on the jets near the end and blowing past the field to take first place.

He crossed the finish line far ahead of the rest of the competition. Ohno was not expected to medal in the 1,500 meters. The semifinals and finals will be held later tonight.
