Americans fail to move past first round of normal hill ski jumping

None of the three U.S. ski jumpers were able to advance to the final round in Saturday’s normal hill ski jumping competition at Whistler Olympic Park.

Peter Frenette (Saranac Lake, N.Y.) and Nick Alexander (Lebanon, N.H.) tied for 41st with scores of 106.5 points, while Anders Johnson (Park City, Utah) was 49th with a 92.5.

The leader at the end of Round 1 was Switzerland’s Simon Ammann, who posted a score of 135.5. The top 30 jumpers advanced to this afternoon’s final round.

Next up for the U.S. athletes is the long hill competition, which begins on with the qualification round at 10 a.m. on Friday.
