Update on Kevin Pearce's condition
Snowboarder Kevin Pearce, who is in intensive care at a hospital in Salt Lake City, was upgraded from critical to serious condition this afternoon, and his doctor called it a "very big step" in his recovery process.
“Kevin is in serious condition and remains in intensive care at University of Utah Hospital," said one of his doctors, Holly Ledyard, in a statement. "We’ve been able to remove his breathing tube, and he is slowly regaining consciousness and able to follow commands.
"While we’re pleased that he’s improving faster than anticipated, he still
has a long recovery ahead of him.”
The update was released on Wednesday on a Facebook page, which has issued reports on his progress since he was injured last month while training in Park City, Utah.

It’s great to hear Kevin’s doctor saying that he is slowly improving, regaining consciousness and responding to commands. We continue to pray for Kevin and his family. Two years ago a good friend of mine had an accident snowboarding in Alberta. There is a tragic side to the story but a very upbeat side to it as well. Me and my friends live in Hailey Idaho. We all have Kevin in our top two favorite snowboarders. We all send Kevin and his family good thoughts and positive vibes. We hope he makes a full recovery and is able to hop on a board again. We all love you Kevin. Get well soon!
