Update on Kevin Pearce's condition

January 6, 2010 |  4:49 pm

Snowboarder Kevin Pearce, who is in intensive care at a hospital in Salt Lake City, was upgraded from critical to serious condition this afternoon, and his doctor called it a "very big step" in his recovery process.

Fabforum “Kevin is in serious condition and remains in intensive care at University of Utah Hospital," said one of his doctors, Holly Ledyard, in a statement. "We’ve been able to remove his breathing tube, and he is slowly regaining consciousness and able to follow commands.

"While we’re pleased that he’s improving faster than anticipated, he still
has a long recovery ahead of him.”

The update was released on Wednesday on a Facebook page, which has issued reports on his progress since he was injured last month while training in Park City, Utah.
