The two U.S. riders in the men's mountain bike competition at the Beijing Games finished well off the pace Saturday afternoon at the Laoshan course. Adam Craig finished 29th, one lap behind the leader. Todd Wells was three laps back at 43rd.
France claimed the gold and silver, with Julien Absalon winning in a time of 1:55:59. Teammate Jean-Christophe Peraud was 1:07 behind him. The bronze medal went to Nino Schurter of Switzerland, who finished in 1:57:52.

It sure would be nice if we could watch this event on TV, but NBC has done a horrible job of communicating its broadcast schedule. I looked it up on the web and it was not accurate. NBC's coverage so far has been so bunk that it makes me not want to watch at all.

I have been a fan of mountain bike racing since the late 80's and the Europeans have almost always been able to beat us easily. I am from Maine and it is cool to see a Mainer in the Olympics, to bad we don't consider cycling to be an American sport, maybe if we did these guys would have a better chance.
