Phelps wins first gold, sets world record in 400 IM

Michael Phelps who just won his first gold and set a world record in the 400 IM, swims the breaststroke portion of the 400-meter individual medley during his preliminary heat Saturday

BEIJING — Michael Phelps wins men’s 400 individual medley gold medal in a world record time of 4 minutes, 3.84 seconds. Ryan Lochte takes the bronze.
