Track and field: 3 U.S. women out of 800 meters

BEIJING -- The Olympics ended fast for the three U.S. women in the 800 meters because they ran too slow.

Nicole Teter stopped running after 150 meters in her first-round heat Friday morning because of a lingering Achilles tendon injury.

Olympic trials champion Hazel Clark, competing in her third Summer Games, and Olympic rookie Alice Schmidt simply failed to advance.

It is the second straight such failure for Clark, who was seventh in the 800 final at the 2000 Games.

‘I’m extremely disappointed,’ Clark said.
