Wednesday's Beijing air update

The latest view of the Olympic Green.

This was the view from PhilCam at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday in Beijing. Blogger Philip Hersh has been sending digital images to show what it looks like at the Olympic Green.

On Tuesday afternoon, the Bird's Nest was clearly visible. The Beijing Municipal Environmental Protection Bureau website has relevant air pollution data.

This is hideous. How are world-class athletes suppose to compete in this soup? They'll be lucky to cross the finish line let alone beat records. I also saw photos of massive clean up crews for water filled with a foot or more of algae.
