Michelle Duggar of '19 Kids and Counting' suffers miscarriage
Michelle Duggar, the reality TV star of TLC's "19 Kids and Counting," has revealed that she suffered a miscarriage, losing what would have been her 20th child.
Duggar, 44, and her husband, Jim Bob, had announced in early November that they were once again expecting sometime in April. But the couple revealed the sad turn of events on their blog Thursday. Their statement read in part:
"We discovered during a routine 19-week ultrasound that our 20th child, who was due in April 2012, passed away recently. As our whole family is grieving, we also know that God promises to work all things for good in our lives. We rest in knowing that even though our child has departed this life that we will one day see each other again in heaven.
"Our prayer is that baby Duggar’s passing will help us all realize that this life is short, and our relationship with Jesus is the most important thing. He gives us a peace in our hearts as He guides us through whatever we might face."
Michelle and Jim Bob, devoted Christians, do not practice birth control and have said they prefer to allow the Lord to determine the size of their family. They have nine girls and 10 boys, all of whom have names beginning with the letter "J."
Almost precisely two years ago -- Dec. 10, 2009 -- Michelle Duggar gave birth via emergency C-section to their 19th child, Josie Brooklyn Duggar. Born three months premature, the child weighed 22 ounces and spent months in the hospital before she was well enough to go home with her parents, above. The little girl's fragility led some to criticize the couple's lifestyle as being unnecessarily risky.
Michelle Duggar told People magazine that she and her family planned to honor their unborn child by selecting a name after they learned whether the baby was a boy or girl, and then holding a funeral.
