Traffic at air base near Tucson is restricted in security move

Traffic on and into an Air Force base near Tucson, Ariz., was severely reduced Friday because of a “potential security situation,” a military spokesman said, adding that personnel were responding to an unconfirmed report of an individual with a weapon.

Davis-Monthan Air Force base was on lockdown while officials investigated a suspicious incident, Airman Timothy Moore said in a telephone interview from the base. Movement was limited to one entry point, he said.

Moore denied earlier and unconfirmed reports that shots had been fired at the base. He said there had been ‘suspicious activity,’ which led to a “potential security situation.”

No other details were available, he said.
