'I'm not a witch': Christine O'Donnell regrets, cringes at ad

The most memorable political ad of 2010?

Might be former Delaware Senate candidate Christine O’Donnell’s "I'm not a witch” spot –- a commercial that thrust her into the national conversation last year and not necessarily in a good way (unless mockery by "Saturday Night Live" and talk shows across the country is the goal).

Even if grabbing attention were the strategy, it didn’t work. Democratic opponent Chris Coons beat O'Donnell, a "tea party" favorite, with more than 56% of the vote. But that doesn’t mean there’s not an audience for a book discussing the campaign. She has one and was promoting “Troublemaker” on "Good Morning America" on Tuesday morning.

Cringing while "GMA" host George Stephanopoulos played part of the infamous ad on the program, O’Donnell said she regretted it.

“I did hate it,” she said shaking her head and sighing.

Why did she do it?

O’Donnell said she wasn’t a fan of the ad when it was conceived, but "everyone said 'trust the experts,' " she lamented.

“And we were trying to win over" the National Republican Senatorial Committee," she said, "because they were not getting involved.”

What’s her takeaway?

"Anyone going forward in politics needs to take a huge lesson in that and that's if you've gotten this far, trust your gut, trust your instincts," she said. [Video below.]
