When the Music Box in Hollywood was abruptly shuttered in early January, local promoter Goldenvoice promised that it would be a ‘short-term’ closure. The masterminds of the Coachella festival in Indio, Calif., on Tuesday officially revealed that they were taking over the venue’s lease and that they would immediately resume promoting concerts at the space.

The venue was closed in January after the leasees were evicted, but details were scant. According to sources involved with the venue, Music Box operator Thaddeus Smith reportedly was evicted after he violated terms of his lease when some of his business partnerships changed. Smith did not return numerous emails from Pop & Hiss.

It had long been assumed that Goldenvoice would take control of the 1,300-capacity venue. Even while the the theater was closed, the promoter continued to announce concerts at the space. In early March, Goldenvoice announced numerous Coachella-related concerts at the venue, now known as the Fonda Theater, including Kasabian (April 17) and Manchester Orchestra (April 16).

Tickets are currently on sale for upcoming shows such as Nada Surf (March 20), Esperanza Spalding (April 27) and Mogwai (June 2). The first show currently on the docket is electronic act Feed Me on March 17.
