If you’re reading this, you might not need reminding about the importance of ‘future roots’ radio station Dublab. From the Low End Theory scene to Stones Throw and the Smell, to the rest of underground funk, punk, soul and roots music, the Internet-only outpost has been an essential incubatator of the Los Angeles music scene.

Dublab puts on concerts, programs far out and fantastic shows and drops mixes that continually make you press rewind until they’ve blown your mind (or at least make you drag the cursor back). It’s also a nonprofit, meaning the station has to regularly seek out donations to keep the operation running. One of its most prominent annual fundraisers is Creative Cultivation, slated to be held July 19 at the JF Chen Loft.

According to the Dublabbers, Creative Cultivation will feature elevated live music performances, a delicious meal, a preview of Dublab’ s future projects and much more, all presented on Dublab’s warm, creative wavelength. Food will be provided by Bread&Wine Catering, and complimentary drinks will be provided by Barefoot Bubbly & Wine, Lagunitas Beer and a coffee and tea bar by Intelligentsia.

Per usual, the radio haven has curated an excellent lineup for the evening, featuring Quartetto Fantastico, a VJ set from Stones Throw founder and Dublab board member Peanut Butter Wolf, the Dublab resident DJs, and Devendra Banhart, who will ‘share a site specific musical surprise.’

Los Angeles’ own Lucky Dragons will also be performing at the event, and anyone who has seen Luke Fischbeck and Sarah Rara live understands why they are regularly hailed as one of the city’s most innovative and exciting groups. The duo, which performs Wednesday night at the Smell with Ezra Buchla, is premiering a mix today on Pop & Hiss that serves as testament to its wide-reaching eclecticism and creative fearlessness.
