Amid the alphabet soup of labels distributed by Alpha Pup, Friends of Friends remains one of the most consistent. Run by Leeor Brown, the imprint hit the ground running with a well-established network, tapping Daedelus and Jogger for a split EP.

Founded when Brown was a publicist for many of the Low End Theory artists, it’s been able to successfully carve out a niche within an increasingly crowded field. Over the course of the label’s two-year existence, it has released a nearly a dozen records, including an album from rising bass music stars Mexicans with Guns and Berlin’s Robot Koch.

Indeed, good taste, an ability to go outside the local talent pool, and an impressive Rolodex has set Friends of Friends apart. And unlike many small labels, it’s been able to spot and nurture talent -- perhaps the most prominent being Shlohmo, who has risen from teenage beat junkie to headlining act in little over a year’s time.

The label celebrates 24 months extant with a deep mob on Saturday night at the Echoplex. Look for Shlohmo to play cuts off ‘Bad Vibes,’ his forthcoming FoF release that threatens to be the scene’s best beat album this year; Mexicans with Guns, Baths, Groundislava, Jonwayne and Anenon are on the bill as well.

Also on stage will be San Francisco’s Salva, another FoF artist who might have the highest international profile of any artist on its roster. Earning praise from the British bass set and the electronic-skewing Fact Magazine crowd, the Chicago-bred Salva liquefies hip-hop, pop, funk, dubstep and house into his own singular brew. In advance of his Saturday night set, Pop & Hiss is premiering his ‘I’ll Be Your Friend,’ a cover of Robert Owens’ seminal Chicago House track.
