Prince to perform 21-night Los Angeles run, starting at the Forum on April 14 [Updated]

Prince

After successful residencies in the New York area in December and January, Prince is finally setting up an extended stay in Los Angeles -- and attempting to upstage Coachella in the process.

The singer dialed into “Lopez Tonight,” of all places, Thursday night to announce he would be kicking off a 21-night run at the Forum.

[Updated 1:10 p.m.: Word from Prince's camp is that not all the shows will necessarily be at the Forum; a press release is due out shortly detailing ticketing information and venue locations for the first six appearances. We have adjusted the headline to reflect this information.]

The stint will begin April 14 with backing band the New Power Generation and “a whole gang of special guests,” he teased. He said he needs somewhere to rehearse and asked the host if he could come to the show in person on Wednesday, which Lopez graciously agreed to.

“Whatever you do, just let us bring the purple,” the singer warned. "Everybody’s always overdoing that purple lights and whatnot, you know what I mean?”

I'm there!

Greatest musician in the world.

I'm so there

always a great live show, when he shows up on time. which is not often. dont need to wait until he shows up at 1am.

Prince YES, CoacHELLa NO.

He's worth the wait!

you know you are a has been when you're playing the forum...

i would LOVE to see prince at the FABULOUS FORUM!!!!!

Who cares? The diminutive one is no longer relevant musically or politically. Go back to Minneapolis where you came from.

The sound at Staples sucks. Besides Staples will be locked up for the Kings and Lakers playoff runs.

Chuck, you are musically deficient. I saw Prince at the Sports Arena, several times at the Forum, twice at Staples Center and once at Nokia. Forum was the best...I will see him again at the Forum.

--yuck, this guy is gross!

He hasn't even tried to make a hit record in the last decade or so, why go see him perform a bunch of crap that was never any good to begin with?

The prince is back!!

I first saw Roger Nelson perform at bumpers rollar rink owned by Cher on La Cienega and Santa Monica Blvd...The Times Calender Section said go see this guy he might amount to Something. He is a True Musical genius And Icon...I've seen him 20 times since then....Add on Morris Day and the Time.....Bingo

There are very few worthy artists performing these days with a full band of extremely talented musicians. Every Prince show will be amazing and well worth the time and money. I'll be flying in for two nights myself. The haters who commented, stay home you won't be needed.

I've always been in awe of his talents, such extraordinary skills as a musician and an unbelievable stage presence. There are no minuses here.

His shows are really very incredible. Anybody that appreciates great musical talent and showmanship will not be disappointed. I've seen him twice so far this tour as no shows are rehersed nor the same. As each venue is different & unique... the sound and acostics are tweaked accordingly, no fear of losing your hearing of overlapping sound. Ther shows are all Old School hits, some covers & it will not shock pre teens either. His genius is brought to the forefront and unforgetable!

FYI... All his shows now begin on the dot, He's VERY punctual and btw, his concert are seen in the round with great video screens throughout the entire venues. Ticket buyers beware, if you decide to be extravagant and want VIP table seating, Tic*etmast*r will provide accurate table locations(MANY pvt brokers will not! So unless you use Tic*etmast*r... you are taking the chance of finding your seats behind the stage for the same ammount as in front( I found this all out the first time the hard/$ way)!. It's shaped as his symbol/guitar and the majority of his performance is done along the guitars neck area of his stage. Ima just sayin'!

Greatest musician in the world, Mark? I love me my Prince, but I had no idea Joni was going to be on the bill.

Love Prince..So excited he's such a great musician. In the midst of such horrible junk music out there what a talent he is!.It's going to be fantastic..

The sound system is being provided by Rat Sound, the same company that does the sound for Coachella, the Chili Peppers, Blink, etc., etc. Y0u won't find a better sounding, state-0f-the-art audio system anywhere_
N0 I don't work for them, but it sounds like Shawn d0es,,,
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

Shawn is on crack. Prince's 4/30 show didn't start until a little after 9:00, with a scheduled start of 7:30.

There are some morons who will say that we just have to accept this because he's always done it. But it simply shows how little respect Prince has for his fans.

7:30 is the start time for the opening band, if there is one. Prince's headline slot begins later. And, yes, even when late he is worth the damn wait. Amongst all the mediocrity and crap that gets hyped to death nowadays, here is a true musical genius. Always inventive and always forward-looking.

THE PRINCE HATERS HERE NEED TO KEEP THEIR NEGATIVE THOUGHTS TO THEMSELVES. ONLY PEOPLE WHO R NOT AWARE OF PRINCE'S FULL BODY OF WORK WOULD DARE MAKE SUCH DISPARAGING REMARKS ABOUT HIM. I DARE ANY OF U BUMS TO NAME ONE MUSISCIAN THAT CAN OUTDO PRINCE! THIS GUY HAS BEEN DOING HIS THING FOR A LONG TIME AND AT 53 YRS. OLD CAN STILL DO IT A HIGH LEVEL. U VERY WELL KNOW AT HIS PEAK THERE WAS NO COMPARISON. TODAY THERE STILL ISN'T. NAME ONE!!?? I DARE YA!
