Barbra Streisand to be feted as Recording Academy's MusiCares Person of the Year

Gmb7mhke The Recording Academy has chosen Barbra Streisand as its MusiCares Person of the Year in conjunction with the 2011 Grammy Awards, and will salute her musical and philanthropic achievements Feb. 11 with an all-star fundraising dinner and concert featuring Tony Bennett, Stevie Wonder, Herbie Hancock, Barry Manilow, Diana Krall, Kristin Chenoweth and others.

Along with such pop, jazz and Broadway veterans, the event also will bring in a new generation of singers with an appearance by cast members from Fox TV’s hit series “Glee,” including Lea Michele, Matthew Morrison and Darren Criss. Eight-time Grammy winner Streisand also will perform at the close of the program.

Previous MusiCares honorees include Bennett, Wonder, Elton John, Aretha Franklin, Brian Wilson, Bono, Bonnie Raitt, Luciano Pavarotti and Neil Young.  Proceeds from the annual event benefit various MusiCares programs for musicians in need.

No one is more deserving than Mrs. Brolin. She is an original & an all time Great.

as long as Matthew Morrison sings- I'm happy

Now if the performances would only be televised!

Way to go Barbra! This is an honor richly deserved. Your CD "Love is the Answer" released last year was amazing.

The collaboration with Diana Krall was not only brilliant but it produced Barbra's best album since "The Broadway Album" back in 1985. Barbra has had a #1 album in each of the last 5 decades! 1960's -2000's

There is an amazing clip on the internet of Barbra accepting the Grammy on 02/24/1987 and mentioning that her favorite number was 24 and that she might just win another Grammy in 24 years....well guess what! It is exactly 24 years later and Barbra has a very good chance for winning in 2011 for "Love is the Answer"!

I've been a Streisand fan for so many years it scares me. I have every record she has ever made. When I retired nearly three years ago, Barbra was doing a show in England and my kids pulled out all the stops to get a ticket for me to see her. Without success, I might add. Their second option was a holiday in Verona, Italy, for the second love of my life, opera: Tosca, in fact, at the Arena de Verona. As much as I love opera and this particular opera and holiday, given the choice - actually, there would have been no competition, - I would have plumped for Barbra every time. To me, she is the lottery winners dream. Roll on winning the lottery.
