Coachella 2011: The dates have been set, so let's start speculating
The summer festival season has nearly come to an end. We here on the West Coast have another major event on the horizon with San Francisco's Outside Lands, but then it's time to start filling the piggy bank for 2011's festival season. Goldenvoice unveiled Tuesday the official dates for Coachella 2011, and Indio hotels are standing by for the three-day weekend beginning April 15.
Coachella is coming off its best-attended fest yet, as the 2010 edition, headed by Jay-Z, Gorillaz and Thom Yorke, with many, many, many others, drew 75,000 people per day to register a sellout. The summer festival is thriving, even as other facets of the touring biz have struggled. Chicago's Lollapalooza swelled in size in 2010 as well, and our pals at the Chicago Tribune noted the fest drew about 80,000 per day.
But that's all business stuff. It's time to start the "Book Blur in 2011" campaign. Or OutKast. Or Kanye West.

P.S.: Dear Goldenvoice, many of us here are a little jealous that Lollapalooza had Chicago chef Graham Elliot Bowles curate the food options. Can we one-up them on the West Coast, perhaps? How about Rick Bayless? He's got a foothold in L.A. now, and that would be a slight blow to Chicago pride. Thanks.

Book Blur! I would definitely attend if blur came back for this gig. One of the best bands of the last 20 years! Thanks for mentioning Damon and company.

We need Radiohead to be there this year. New album, new tour seems likely. They'd destroy Coachella.

The only way I'll ever go to another Coachella is if they book as many electronic acts as indie rock, and offer single day tickets.
So, ya, looks like I'm never going to Coachella again.

I am okay with Blur at Coachella, but I like the sound of "Bring Blur to the (Hollywood) Bowl" better.

Reggie I've been to a few Coachella's and I can definitely say 1) you could spend the whole time there just seeing electro acts (but why would u want to?) as many as are booked 2) 3 day camping is a lot more fun, and better, than 1 day passes!

They do offer 1 day passes to Coachella. And I second the fact that they have JUST AS MANY electronic acts as anything else. And I found a love for techno at that festival. Hearts to Bassnectar. Also, I would LOVE LOVE LOVE to see Daft Punk at Coachella. PLEASE?

Blink 182 coachella!!! That would be amazing!

coachella really needs to cut down on all the indie hipster music they've been booking. How are people suggesting things like having arcade fire headline along side bands/musicians like neil young, bowie, Roger Waters and Radiohead as if they are in the same class!! I'm not trying to be a music snob or anything but there is definitely a music hierarchy that exists and arcade fire is certainly not at the top of it, it just seems ridiculous to me.
This is one man's opinion, coachella needs to target some more interesting headliners this year and cut down on the "trendiness." I know this is a festival for young people but not too long ago they had headliners like the pixies, the cure, and roger waters which (to me) seems a little bit better than Jay Z and Tiesto.
My suggestion: Get a Talking Heads reunion show.
