Your new Friday plans: Ebony Bones flies the freak-soul flag at the Echo

February 4, 2010 |  4:15 pm

"Stop doing that job-related task!" When that order comes from someone in a glitter-drenched tribal outfit and combat boots, as it does on Ebony Bones' "The Muzik," one is inclined to pay attention. Add Ebony Bones to the list of costumed weirdos with a penchant for getting the dance floor moving. Her debut, "Bone of My Bones," is an import-only item at the moment -- for those who acquire music through legit means -- but she'll bring her worldly mix of punk rock and reggae soul to the Echo on Friday night.

Pop & Hiss admits to being late on her, but our sister publication the Chicago Tribune has been hip. Greg Kot interviewed her for his blog Turn it Up, where she described her music as a "dark Disney ride." A trip to Ebony Bones' fantasyland, however, will run you only about $10.
