Bill Engvall to follow in the Cyrus family footsteps

May 25, 2009 | 12:02 pm

If you thought Taylor Swift performing with Def Leppard wasn't funny enough, you're in luck.

Comedian Bill Engvall has been tapped to host this year's County Music Television Awards telecast, slated to air June 16 on the music video network.

The hiring of Engvall -- a veteran of the Blue Collar Comedy Tour, as well as a friend to CMT --  ends all hope that 2009 would bring a return of father-daughter hosting powerhouse Billy Ray and Miley Cyrus (remember such classics as "Treasury Secretary Hannah Montana"?).

In addition to Engvall, the CMT Awards will feature Trace Adkins, Jason Aldean, Dierks Bentley, Toby Keith, Brad Paisley, Rascal Flatts, Sugarland, Swift, Keith Urban and the aforementioned Def Leppard. Pop & Hiss will bring you live coverage.
