UCLA cancels Hal Willner Stay Awake concert

October 22, 2008 |  2:33 pm

UCLA has canceled the 20th anniversary Hal Willner’s Stay Awake Concert scheduled for Oct. 30 at Royce Hall because some key performers pulled out for personal reasons, according to UCLA officials.

The event was to commemorate the 1988 release of "Stay Awake: Various Interpretations of Music from Vintage Disney Films," featuring Willner-produced versions of Disney songs performed by Los Lobos, Tom Waits, Bonnie Raitt, Sinead O’Connor, James Taylor, Ringo Starr, NRBQ and others.

According to UCLA’s website, David Johansen, Van Dyke Parks, Marshall Allen, Ken Nordine and NRBQ's Terry Adams had been set to take part in the anniversary salute. Refunds are available from the UCLA Central Ticket Office by calling (310) 825-2101.
