Following Trayvon Martin case, Fox changes 'Neighborhood Watch' title

May 4, 2012 |  4:08 pm

The Watch
Concerned that its movie will be confused with the controversial Trayvon Martin shooting, 20th Century Fox on Friday said it was changing the name of the film “Neighborhood Watch” to “The Watch."

The studio said it was making the switch for the July 27 release starring Ben Stiller and Jonah Hill because it wanted “to avoid any accidental or unintended” confusion about the Martin case as “the subject matter of this alien invasion comedy bears no relation whatsoever to the recent tragic events in Florida."

Fox previously had pulled some promotional materials for the film following Martin’s fatal shooting by neighborhood watch captain George Zimmerman on Feb. 26.
