The Oscar race for animated short is down to 10, puddy tat

And then there were 10.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced Thursday that 10 animated short films have been selected to continue in the running for a nomination at the upcoming 84th Academy Awards. Initially, 44 shorts qualified in this category.

The 10 qualifying shorts are:

‘Dimanche/Sunday,’ directed by Patrick Doyon

‘The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore,’ directed by William Joyce and Brandon Oldenburg

‘I Tawt I Taw a Puddy Tat,’ directed by Matthew O’Callaghan; Sam Register, executive producer

‘La Luna,’ directed by Enrico Casarosa

‘Luminaris,’ directed by Juan Pablo Zaramella

‘Magic Piano,’ directed by Martin Clapp; Hugh Welchman, producer

‘A Morning Stroll,’ directed by Grant Orchard; Sue Goffe, producer

‘Paths of Hate,’ directed by Damian Nenow

‘Specky Four-Eyes,’ directed by Jean-Claude Rozec, director; Mathieu Courtois, producer

‘Wild Life,’ directed by Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby

The members of the motion picture academy’s Short Films and Feature Animation Branch will select three to five nominees from this list. The Oscar nominations will be announced Jan. 24; the awards will be presented Feb. 26 at the Kodak Theatre.
