Should 'Twilight' fans stop posting photos of Kristen Stewart and Robert Pattinson in 'Breaking Dawn'?

April 1, 2011 |  4:36 pm

Don't take our movie stills, please.

Leaked images of Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart in sultry positions on the in-production "Breaking Dawn" have zinged around the Web faster than a vampire practicing Celerity.

Break But while the image sent fans into lupine delight (that's not it on the left, incidentally; the one here was given to The Times for a story in January), the creators behind the franchise were less enthused. The property's author, director, producer and studio got together to issue an unusually direct plea this afternoon.

"As some of you may know, pictures and screen grabs of 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn' as a work in progress have leaked on the Internet," began the statement, which was signed by author Stephenie Meyer, director Bill Condon, producer Wyck Godfrey and Summit.

It continued, "We are extremely proud of this film and also extremely heartbroken to see it out there at this stage.  The film and these images are not yet ready or in their proper context. They were illegally obtained and their early dissemination is deeply upsetting to the actors, the filmmakers and Summit who are working so hard to bring these movies to fruition to you in November 2011 and November 2012.

"Please, for those who are posting, stop. And please, though the temptation is high, don’t view or pass on these images. Wait for the film in its beautiful, finished entirety to thrill you."

It's a nice and justifiable plea, although the likelihood of some sites taking down the photo is about as likely as James' coven joining forces with the Cullens. And the image is probably not going to affect ticket sales much. Nor is it as if the images -- at least to our lay eyes -- offer any major revelations. [Update, 5:24 p.m.: Several readers note that a number of the images do reveal key plot points. We stand corrected.]

Still, it does highlight that too much fan interest can be a dangerous thing for a studio. And it raises the question of to what extent a fan not involved in the initial leak has a responsibility to refrain from posting and oohing over a photo.

HAHA, lets post some more friends!

i dont see what the blow up is about if you are a true fan this wont change a thing so stop whineing summit

Nah, I doubt the photos(stills) will do justice to the finished product

Rob is so hot and romantic is perfect and handsome just for my heart!!!!!

it's not only two pictures there are lots of picture were release yesterday. actually when i 1st saw the pictures i was really excited to watch the movie and i can't wait. they just want us to be surprice when we see the movie so i understand them why are they disappointed to the fans.

I'll be glad when November gets here - we can all finally get to The Twilight Climax and then enjoy a Collective Worldwide Cigarette afterwards!

The leaks were bound to happen - it's just too easy in this day of Social Networking and Internet Anonymity. I do feel bad for the actors though - they both appear to take their work and personal privacy seriously.

What do you all think about "On the Road" being released around the same time as "Breaking Dawn 1" - with Miss Stewart in that movie nearly-nude & enjoying herself with one or both of the young men playing Dean & Sal? Can TwiFans handle it?

I think this was a big publicity stunt pulled by Summit. It's their way of saying "Remember he is still 'Edward Cullen' and here are some steamy pictures to prove it." Also there has been no mention of Summit trying to find out who leaked the pictures and video in the first place. I smell a rat.

Water For Elephants is getting great press and word is that Rob is superb in the movie. It is a big film from a big time studio that doesn't have to stoop to Summit's level for publicity, and there is already Oscar buzz about it.

With the press junkets starting and the premiere in a few weeks, it is the perfect ploy to steal some of Rob's thunder, and get the focus back to Breaking Dawn.

Even though I will see both Breaking Dawn films, I will be happy for Rob when his association with Summit is finished, and he can move on to bigger and better things.

Instead of Summit worrying about the leaked photos being posted (I must admit I couldn't wait to look and it only made me want to see the movie more!), perhaps they ought to worry more about the "trusted insider". Someone who had access to the photos/clips obviously leaked the photos.

WonderFalls - Better things ? People like me actually care about the series.
FOR YOU HATERS AND PEOPLE WHO DON'T CARE FOR TWILIGHT WHY DON'T YOU LEAVE US ALONE ? How about letting us enjoy our series and maybe you should find something better to do with your time ! Ok ?
I think it's ok to take a peak it keeps the hype going and it's not like well not watch it.

yes they should

I am a huge fan of Twilight and I definitely had to see the pictures. I can understand why Summitt is upset. They do take away part of the surprise of seeing the film for the first time but isn't that what movie trailers do? A movie trailer basically gives you the whole movie in a condensed version. That to me is more of a spoiler than some pictures.
Frankly these pictures aren't spoiling anything for the true fan we already know the story. They are just making us more excited about the possibilities of any of the pictures making it into the finished movie. The pictures just made me want to see the movie now!!!

The statement posted by NotATween 4/2/11 at 01:48 pm . makes a lot of sense. The Twilight Saga fandom has been hungry for fresh news of Breaking Dawn’s progress ever since Eclipse came out. Comments on popular Rob Pattinson fansites concur that Breaking Dawn I & 2 would be released too far in the future, causing a lack of public interest. My recent observation of the MTV MOVIE AWARDS NOMINEES showed a lack of focus on the TwilightSaga, what with dozens and dozens of new movies now competing for top honors. The news media is capitalizing on this apparent lapse of interest in Twilight’s Breaking Dawn. Recent magazine cover shoots of Rob Pattinson , like Vanity Fair and Entertainment Weekly have articles titled “RP Wrestles His Way Out of the Twilight Zone”, and RP Beyond Twilight. Of course the upcoming release of WFE helps this idea that Rob is eager to leave Twilight behind. (and focus is off of Twilight’s Breaking Dawn). So, the strange TIMELY release of confidential photos/video from Breaking Dawn has brought the focus back to where it should be. In a recent interview Robert Pattinson spoke about certain Breaking Dawn scenes that could not be rated PG-13. Perhaps the leaked photos/video were some of these? I’m glad Summit Entertainment posted an article on People.com saying Breaking Dawn filming has progressed to the wedding of Edward and Bella. Once again, the devoted fans have played an important role in the success of the Twilight Saga.

I know nothing about Twilight except the barest of pop culture references. There are Werewoves and Vampires and a chick who can't tell a gay guy when she sees one. (seriously - that one guy should do the Jeff Stryker story). Apparently, this all takes place in Forks, Washington. I thought Taylor Swift looked kinda cute in the SNL take off. Oh, and everyone has to choose a "Team". There, that's what I know.

Here's what I learned from reading this article - The publicity guys are having trouble with the long production gap. The general public can't recognize a publicity stunt when they see one. There's going to be an Unrated DVD edit that might includes that chick's nipple for, like 1 second, and probably some Werewolf and or Vampire butt. This DVD will be marketed as the "Twilight we couldn't show you in theaters" and the marketing campaign will use the word "Unedited" in all caps. The will even say stuff like - "Never Before Seen" and "You haven't seen Breaking Dawn until now!". Yawn.

I guess I don't know enough about this whole thing but I thought the books had already been written. How do you have spoilers about a movie where the plot is in a book?

It is SAD that people have to go this low and put pictures on the net. Yes, people will buy the tickets to watch the movie, but it is the point. RESPECT!!! These actors and others behind this film have put ALOT of time and heart into giving us two films that we will enjoy and be like the book. I have learned in this messed up world that no matter what you do someone will always ruin it for others. They will also have negative input about the actors and others will be upset at this. None of us put what they did into this movie. So many people are so worry about what Kristen and Robert are going to do even off screen. People get a LIFE they are playing characters in a book. If they develope a friendship that is NO ONES BUSINESS. THEY DO HAVE A PERSONAL LIFE! That is why the person that done this is so worried about their personal life rather than their movies, so you what to put stuff out there about them begin more than what it really is. People that do this are NOT FANS, you are jeaslous people of something you will never have and love to keep DRAMA. I hope for everyone that they do not get upset with the people that do enjoy their movies and they are not just Twilight movies. I'm so sorry to the cast and everyone that was a part of this BD movie that someone took away what you all were trying to make a extrodinary film for the TRUE FANS. A fan is not one that follows you all around, screaming all the time, or even making it hard for you all to come out and enjoy life. They watch your movies and just bottom line enjoy what you bring to the film. I hope that they find who done this and if not I hope the read that what they done was disrespectful. Hopefully somewhere in that disfunctional mind they what do it again. To Robert, I hope that no one hacks into your e-mail again, that all together is someone disturbed.
I will be looking foward to Breaking Dawn in November. Good Luck to ALL of you.
