Kristen Stewart: 'Breaking Dawn' will change people's minds about Bella Swan

October 18, 2010 |  7:06 pm

Getprev"Twilight" fans love to debate their favorite novel in Stephenie Meyer's bestselling vampire series. Kristen Stewart says she has her own favorite -- and it's the most explicit and intense of the bunch.

"This one's really good. This one really goes there, finally," said the actress who plays the iconic Bella Swan of "Breaking Dawn." "This one is like the forming of a family. You see everything really come to fruition because I feel like [Bella] has sort of gone through an accelerated growth period."

In November, Stewart will reprise the Bella role when she begins filming the first half of “Breaking Dawn,” the fourth movie in the “Twilight” franchise, which will be directed by Bill Condon. The story follows [spoiler alert: if you aren't familiar with "Breaking Dawn," skip to the last paragraph] Bella’s marriage to vampire Edward Cullen (Rob Pattinson), as the two finally consummate their relationship and Bella becomes pregnant.

"At this point," Stewart says, "you do accept [Bella] as a mom.”

Because their child is half-human and half-vampire, Bella’s pregnancy is riddled with complications -- all leading up to a dramatic birth scene, in which Edward tears open Bella’s stomach with his teeth to save their baby.

There has been speculation about how the graphic scene will be depicted on screen. Stewart acknowledges it's a "crazy concept," also describing werewolf Jacob's hearing "vampire teeth against vampire skin" during the childbirth scene.

Just how that will play out on screen, though, has yet to be determined. "I've seen the script," which tracks closely to the book, she says. "But it depends on how they shoot it."

Stewart, who was speaking to 24 Frames to promote her new independent drama "Welcome to the Rileys," said she thinks her "Twilight" character has been misunderstood. “Bella’s criticized sometimes for being, like, you know -- I don’t know, selfish and overly emotional and silly and frivolous and annoying and young,” said Stewart. “That’s sort of like a very judgmental way of looking at it."

I'm looking forward to Breaking Dawn. I agreed with Kirstin that this is going to be the best movie(s) of the series. Never in the previous films did I ever feel Bella's character was "selfish and overly emotional and silly and frivolous and annoying and young". Well of course young but the story is an iconic love story of two people destined for each other and finally Bella is what and where she has felt all along she should be. I've read the books at least 4 times and seen the first three films more times than you can possibly imagine and each time is new for me and yet utterly satisfying to me as a reader and film goer. I get her and Edward and their commitment to each other. I think the public loves these characters because everyone wants the kind of love and devotion Edward and Bella have. We all strive and hope for that in our own relationships.

i love all the movies but so far eclipse is my favorite and i cant believe there making us wait a year to see it . this is gonna be a long year .. TEAM EDWARD!

Out of all 4 books, Breaking Dawn is my favorite. It is very well written. I have read the series 4 time now (going on 4). I cannot wait for this movie to come out.

i think the twilight saga is the best thing to ever happen!

While to me this was the most poorly written book of the series, the story is addictive. Could be because I'm a mom too, or because Bella's character is more interesting in the one, what with becoming a vampire and all (she's not that interesting as a mom). Don't know why I'm addicted to the series when I agree that the writing is less than stellar. But it's fun getting lost in it!

i wasn't fond of breaking dawn, not going to lie. but it had some pretty epic things that might make it worth while. i'm just annoyed that we're going to wait a year between movies. :(

I just hope this movie will be a PG13, we need to see some action, some skin to make worth all this wait...
Romantic stuff is fun, but remenber lots of adults are fun of twilight as well and as the book goes.. there is Romance, Sex and lots of action!!
Hope it won't be come boring!!

so here is a question for A LOT of people here...WHAT THE HELL IS THE POINT OF PUTTING ALL YOUR NEGATIVE OPINIONS HERE AND NOTHING MORE??? I mean seriously. I did not like this book as much as the others, just for the pure fact that I am not a Jacob fan at all really. I mean I do see where he comes from on some of his actions, but like after Edward comes back...really? Come on. But he is a male, and he is a DOG. lol. I mean back to my original reason for posting, why do you feel you need to put all of your negative thoughts on here and belittle others? Do you just not have lives and need something to do or what? No, not everyone has to like any of the books or movies, and you do have the right to say that, BUT belittling others who DO like the books or movies is just a bit puny of you dont you think?? just sayin.

I can't wait for the movie :D

I'm so excited for this movie. Breaking Dawn is my favorite book of the entire Twilight Saga. :) I can't wait to see how they turn this amazing book into an awesome major motion picture. :D I can't wait to see Bella's dress, and their wedding, the honeymoon, etc... Oh, and Renesmee! I've been waiting to see her since Twilight first hit the theatres. But, the thing I'm most excited about is, hands down, seeing Bella as a vampire. :D :D :D Can't wait! <3

My eleven year old daughter have been brought close together thanks to Stephanie Myers and the awesome cast of the Twilight Saga, espcially Robert Pattinson! I am thirty two years of age and have never felt younger than I do when I read the books then watch the characters come alive in the film. The last nine of years of my life has thrown dart after dart at my daughter and myself and we have managed to find the good in everything we come across. However, thanks to this very mythical and magical world, we can both escape to the same place at differnt times in our lives with same out come for both of us inspite of the years between us. I am hanging on tightly for the final book to have faces and scenes to fall in love with. please hurry, you have no idea how this world has tken me in deeper and wanting more! Thanks Stephanie Myers, and the all the prople behind the scenes to help create a perfect visual! Adoring fan, Bobbi Snow

i am very excited about breaking Dawn i have read the book 5 times and still can't get enough i am driving my family crazy,Kristen Stewart will really show what she can do.

Breaking Dawn was the BEST book!!! And I loved Bella in this book and movies!
Can't wait for the movie!

I love Breaking Dawn and all of the other books so much that i cried when it was over, SUCH A BEAUTIFUL STORY (: I love Edward and Team Edward winssss, haha yay !

I'm a fan of the saga, but I don't feel Breaking Dawn is the strongest of the books. Personally, I found the plot to be a bit awkward--maybe Meyers was trying to figure out how to end the saga, and when the idea came to her, she thought, "Hm...that could work." Of course, most of the fans are going to like the book mostly for sex and romance of it, but overall it's anti-climatic. We're prepared for this huge battle with the Volturi, but in the end, they only talked. Yes, it serves the purpose of putting Bella in power by having her make the Volturi reconsider attacking, but beyond that it falls a bit flat. The ending works fine in the book because we see firsthand what the characters are experiencing--it's more tangible. But as for how they're going to translate that to the screen and make it work? Chances are they'll have to do what Chris Weitz did at the end of New Moon, and add in at least a little action. Otherwise viewers may end up disgruntled--especially those who haven't read the saga.

I love the Twilight Saga, my favorite book is Twilight but I won't to see Breaking Dawn, I mean, is Weird to think in bella and think that she is going to have a baby... in my opinion this have to be the BEST movie

I can't wait till Breaking Dawn comes out it's my favourite out of the 4 books i'm just gutted that we have to wait 2 years to see part 2, I just really hope the movie does the book justice. I'm interested to see how Renesmee is going to be portrayed on screen its defiantly something they need to get right as it could spoil the whole movie !!! from a huge twilight fan x

@el WTF!?!?! If you don't like The Twilight Saga why read about it?? And Breaking Dawn is the best!

I think that Bella did, with Jacob and Edward, what any one of us would do. I mean, if the love of your life leaves wouldn't you want to be with the one thing that makes your heart stop acing a little? And if your love returned wouldn't you want to spend every living second with him, wile still wanting to be with the one who helped you through the tough times? And all this wile they hate each other and you can't even be in the same room as them without it ending with a fight. It's a hard decision, and some of us don't realize it. Go Switzerland Bella!
I'm really looking forward to Breaking dawn! It's my favorite book too, and I know the movie will be epic. (Spoiler alert!) And to finally see Bella as a vampire! It's going to be the movie of the year. I hope we get to see Bella as a vampire in part one.
I'm counting the days!

Ummm....in the book it says Edward using a surgeon's knife to open up Bella's stomach to get her baby out. So I'm guessing in the movie they're going to go with the gruesome part with having Edward's teeth instead...okay I guess that might be ok, but I rather have the movie be just like the book.

I think out of all the books this was the best book and soon to be movie of all time. Well for me.. im 20years old and never ever read a book in my life, I tried but I only read a chapter or two then never finished reading it but once I saw the first twilight movie I got so into I read all 4 books in a month and then waiting for the movies to come out ive been waiting for breaking dawn since the first movie im so excited this movive I can already tell will be AWSOME!!! and as long as the script is very close with the book it will be epic.

i can't wait for this movie i hope they do a really good job with it and i really hope they don't decide to do it in 3D last minute cause i think that would kind of ruin it...but that's just my opinion

What Kristen described is exactly how SHE portrays Bella on screen. Bella is nothing like her movie character and I think Kristen does a poor job with her role. But Breaking Dawn is the best of the saga though when you really think about it there is no fighting that goes on at the end most of the action happens in Bella's head. So to put the scene of the baseball clearing on film they'll have to add something. I mean its tense but no action really happens its not like you can see Jane and Alec doing their thing when its all in their minds. The only thing that plays out is when Caius kills Irena and Tanya and Kate have to be held back from fighting. So the producers/directors are gonna have to come up with something more. So anticlimantic in the book: no. Anticlimatic on film: it would be, yes unless they change or add to it.

look if any person can say that they hate twilight or say it was poorly written is a true idiot. if it was poorly written then why would it have taken the whole world by storm? and just because you dont like something dosnt mean u can bash the author, cause im sure your not a book critique. PLUS! the top movie critques in the world have said the movies are great. get over yourselves and just admit that u like the books and movies cause everybody else does!
