With the success of ‘Mamma Mia’ two summers ago, it was only a matter of time until the canon of another wildly successful pop band was used as the raw material for a movie. The news just a few minutes ago that studio Fox 2000 has acquired rights to the Beach Boys catalogue and will develop a film based on it suggests that time is now.

The project comes with a music pedigree: Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, the producers of ‘Hairspray’ and the upcoming ‘Footloose,’ are producing it, and Susannah Grant, who wrote ‘The Soloist,’ will do the script.

Little is known of the story, though the film is expected to use the band’s music, not tell the members’ life story. More shortly.
