By now you’ve seen the video clips of the directors who gathered at The Times for the Envelope Roundtable -- Kathryn Bigelow, James Cameron, Lee Daniels, Jason Reitman, Quentin Tarantino -- as they talked about their hardest moments, the impact of film marketing and the pros and cons of original films vs. franchise properties. They were loose and unguarded and often funny. But they said a lot more than that.

In the freewheeling 90-minute conversation, they also talked about how they cast their films -- yes, Tarantino made Brad Pitt read before giving him the lead in ‘Inglourious Basterds’ (‘I have to hear them say my dialogue!’). And they each shared a story about the scene in their current film that they just hated to cut.

Clips of those conversations and more will post here next week.
