Wall Street Roundup: Two big speeches. 50 bigwigs.

Gold: Trading now at $1,858 an ounce, up 2.2% from Wednesday. Dow Jones industrial average: Trading now at 11428.90, up 0.1% from Wednesday.

Wavering stocks. The trade deficit shrunk and the number of newly unemployed rose, sending stocks on a confusing course Thursday morning.

Two big speeches. Investors are waiting for speeches later Thursday by President Obama and Fed chief Ben Bernanke.

50 bigwigs. Bloomberg Markets comes out with its first list of the 50 most influential people in finance, led up by JPMorgan Chase & Co. Chief Executive Jamie Dimon.

Goldman anger. Goldman Sachs shareholders are arguing in a Delaware court that the bank’s compensation helps executives at the expense of shareholders.

Small success. Some hedge funds are turning away investors in an effort to stay small enough to be successful.
