Gold: Trading now at $1,499 per ounce, down 0.1% from Friday. Dow Jones industrial average: Trading now at 11,946.58, up 0.1% from Friday.

Capital increase. Financial regulators from around the globe met in Basel, Switzerland, over the weekend and announced Sunday that banks will have to keep an extra cushion of capital on hand to tide them over during bad times.

QE2.5. While QE2, the Federal Reserve’s monetary stimulus plan, is coming to an end, the central bank may continue buying Treasury bonds to inject money into the economy.

Wall Street and gay marriage. A number of prominent Wall Street magnates, some of them prominent Republicans, put up money to support the passage of New York’s new gay marriage law.
